Nausea and Vomiting

Nausea & Vomiting, Midwest Express Clinic, Chronic vomiting, Why Am I Nauseous

That queasy feeling in your stomach and the wave that comes and goes of wanting to expel the contents of your stomach through vomiting or diarrhea are symptoms you should not ignore as there could be an explained reason for this feeling. While nausea is not a disease, it is important to see a medical professional at Midwest Express Clinic if you have constant feelings of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea that has lasted more than 3 days.

Nausea can be described as an uncomfortable feeling in the stomach/abdomen area, chest or back of the throat. When vomiting is accompanied with nausea, the body is contracting with the lower portion of the stomach. Profuse sweating and excessive salivating may also occur.

Reasons You May Be Feeling Nauseous

Yes, your hormones could be to blame for nauseating feelings. Although nausea and vomiting are more common during pregnancy, it is also a symptom of menopause. This is triggered by the lowering levels of your progesterone. It should also be noted that during ovulation (menstrual cycle) when estrogen levels are increased, a woman may experience mittelschmerz which can create pain and feeling of nausea.

Stomach Flu:

This may also be referred by a physician as viral gastroenteritis. This is an intestinal infection that may cause a very liquid diarrhea, cramps and nausea or vomiting.

A change in medication, or being prescribed a new medication can sometimes leave a person feeling nauseous. If this feeling is something you are unable to handle, consult the prescribing doctor right away; especially if vomiting occurs.

If you have recently consumed too much alcohol, you may experience a hangover which typically is associated with nausea. Along with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea may also be a side effect of consuming too much alcohol.

If you have recently undergone, or are scheduled for a major surgery which requires anesthesia (the medicine medical professionals, called anesthesiologists, use to, “put you under,”) it is a known risk that nausea and vomiting after the surgery are likely.

Food poisoning happens when you have unknowingly consumed something that has been infected by bacteria. The symptoms from food poisoning may take affect within hours of ingesting the food. Another reason you may be feeling nauseous unrelated to food poisoning, is an allergy to the food consumed. Persons who have an unknown milk allergy for instance, may feel nauseous and vomit after injecting dairy. If you believe you may have a food allergy, please contact us.

The most common cause in women for nausea is pregnancy, most often in the morning. The nausea can cause vomiting in pregnant women. Some women may feel nauseous all throughout the day, where others may feel nauseous from a particular smell. Nausea can occur in up to 90% of all pregnancies. If you believe you are pregnant, please contact us immediately for a pregnancy test.

When an intense throbbing occurs from migraines, it may increase the pressure inside of your skull which can result nausea and/or vomiting. A migraine causes the artery at the base of the skull to enlarge which causes inflammation

Emotional Stress:

Generalized anxiety, stress, depression and fear may cause the body to function abnormally which can result in intestinal irritability. Intestinal irritability may result in diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, constipation and more.
