National Allergy & Asthma Month

May 4, 2020

National Allergy & Asthma Month

Spring is a favorite season for many, but if you have asthma or allergies, you prepare yourself for worsening symptoms. Because of this, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) has declared May to be National Asthma & Allergy Awareness Month. Over 60 million Americans are affected by asthma or allergies, making education around these conditions even more important.

Asthma & Allergies: Facts and Figures

Whether or not you are aware, chances are you know someone who is affected by allergies or asthma. Around 19 million adults and 6.2 million children in the United States have asthma, a potentially dangerous chronic disease that affects the lungs. Roughly 26 million adults and 6 million children have a food allergy, and 20 million adults and 5.6 million children suffer from nasal allergies, hay fever, or rhinitis. Allergies themselves can come in several different forms and result in a number of different reactions. Many food allergies can cause life-threatening reactions, while nasal allergies can leave you feeling miserable all season long.

Asthma Help at Midwest Express Clinic

Asthma symptoms tend to flare up in the spring with the weather change, especially when coupled with allergies. Most who have already received an asthma diagnosis are managing symptoms with an inhaler, but even with treatment, it is still possible to experience an asthma attack. At Midwest Express Clinic, we can help with almost any part of asthma, from diagnosis to daily management and treatment for an attack.

Allergy Management from Midwest Express Clinic

Due to the wide array of allergy causes and symptoms, it’s important to try to get to the root cause for effective treatment. The experienced medical team at Midwest Express Clinic will discuss your symptoms and lifestyle habits to help determine what may be causing your discomfort. We will help you learn how to manage or treat your symptoms, whether through avoidance of certain foods or external allergens like pollen, pet dander, and insects. If you require a prescription to keep on hand for potential emergency reactions, we can help with that, too.

At Midwest Express Clinic, we are here to help you with your asthma or allergies, plus other health conditions, non-emergency illness or injuries, and more. We are available every day with convenient walk-in hours at all of our locations – visit us today!
