Partnership Between Zach LaVine and MEC is a Slam Dunk for the Community
Midwest Express Clinic is excited to partner with eight-year NBA veteran, Zach LaVine for our Heart of a Hero endeavor, which aims to provide quality healthcare to all. LaVine’s commitment to helping others is what makes him such a great match with MEC.
At MEC, we believe everyone deserves easy access to reliable healthcare delivered with heart. Our hope is that the partnership with LaVine will help spread the word about our empathetic, personal approach to healthcare so we can reach more Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland residents.
“In order for cities to thrive, having organizations like Midwest Express Clinic committed to tending to our neighbors’ healthcare needs is paramount,” said LaVine. “I’ve seen the demand for quality healthcare in Chicago and surrounding cities. Becoming a brand advocate of MEC means I get to support the everyday heroes — the healthcare workers fighting to keep us well and living our best lives. I’m proud to be a part of MEC’s efforts.”
LaVine’s history
LaVine was a born athlete whose natural talent was apparent at a young age. According to his bio on the Zach LaVine website, he got his start in sports by playing baseball but later switched to basketball after being inspired by Michael Jordan. His obsession with the basketball legend started when he watched the classic kid’s movie, Space Jam.
LaVine’s raw athletic abilities and inherent sportsmanship were nurtured by his father Paul LaVine, former NFL linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks. Together they spent countless hours each day practicing and developing LaVine’s skills. This helped him quickly make his mark in Washington State, where he was ranked the No. 1 basketball player by his junior year of high school.
Because of his “hard work never fails” mentality, in a few short years LaVine was drafted to the NBA by the Minnesota Timberwolves. In 2017 he joined the Chicago Bulls. In addition to being a two time NBA All Star, an Olympic gold medalist and many other accolades, LaVine has also become well known for giving back to the community. Over the years he has donated time and money to the deaf community, something he was inspired to do from his high school days taking courses in American Sign Language. More recently, he partnered with the Chicago Bulls to make a significant donation to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
