DOT Physicals
If the medical examiner determines that the individual is physically qualified to drive a commercial motor vehicle (CMV), they will provide a copy of the results to the individual and complete a Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
The exam usually takes about 30 to 45 minutes. During the examination, the provider will review your medical history and perform some tests to ensure you’re in good health to work safely.
The exam includes:
- Vision and hearing tests
- Blood pressure and pulse rate check
- Urinalysis to check for underlying medical conditions
- Physical examination (checking heart, lungs, abdomen, neurological function, and more)
What to bring to the appointment?
- A valid photo ID (e.g., driver’s license)
- Your current medical certificate (if applicable)
- List of current medications, including dosage and prescribing doctor’s name
- Information about any health conditions and recent medical procedures or surgeries
- Vision or hearing aids, if applicable
- Glasses or contact lenses, if applicable
