Midwest Express Clinic and Coby White Inspire Hope in Chicago Students
On December 3, 2024, Midwest Express Clinic and basketball star Coby White teamed up to deliver a memorable day of generosity and inspiration at Chicago Vocational Career Academy. The event was more than just a charity initiative; it was a meaningful gesture of support and compassion for hundreds of students, featuring a $15,000 donation of essential items and a unique opportunity for the youth to connect with a role model.
Not Your Average “Shopping” Spree
Located on the south side of Chicago, Chicago Vocational Career Academy is a public high school known for its focus on career and technical education. Many students who attend CVCA face socioeconomic challenges that extend beyond the classroom. To address these hardships, Midwest Express Clinic organized a “shopping” experience that allowed students to browse and pick out essential items like toiletries, undergarments and other donated supplies.
White took the time to get to know the students, answering their questions, signing autographs and even playing a competitive game of knockout. White was motivated to participate in the event due to his own personal belief in the power of giving back to the young people in his community.
“Giving back to the youth has always been important to me. They’re our future and bringing some positivity, especially around the holidays, is the least we can do,” White said. “Midwest Express Clinic and I share a lot of the same values — starting with taking care of our community, spreading the importance of mental health and overall wellness, and can’t forget the immense appreciation for our healthcare workers.”
A Shared Vision for Community Impact
This partnership emphasizes a mutual commitment to making a difference in the community. White praised Midwest Express Clinic and their dedication to community outreach, saying, “We had a great time. I always appreciate their staff supporting and being there for me. They truly care about their patients and making our community a better place. It’s special and I’m excited to keep doing good alongside them.”
Beyond the tangible donations, White wanted to empower the students with an important message: “To whom much is given, much is required,” a lesson instilled in him by his parents throughout his childhood. Acknowledging the challenges many of the students face, including mental health struggles and the negative impact of social media, White highlighted the importance of seeking help and finding positive outlets for their emotional wellness.
“I want them to know it’s OK to not be OK, and it shouldn’t be looked down upon to open up and talk about it,” said White. “Even if it’s a favorite teacher or coach, I want them to know people around them care and want them to succeed. There are many outlets that can help these kids feel better and find purpose, like music, sports and the arts.”
A Testament to The Impact of Community Outreach
White hopes that the event at CVCA can serve as a valuable example for other organizations looking to make an impact in their community. “I hope other companies see the impact and use their time and resources to give back to those in need,” he said. “Putting a smile on a kid’s face or seeing them enjoy some time with their friends and get gifts is priceless. We live in a great city, but there are communities in need, so we should all work together to give back as much as we can.”
